On the first Shuttle mission to repair Hubble Space Telescope, one job
was to replace the old solar array panel. One was taken on board the
shuttle. The other panel could not be folded enough, so it was cast off
into space.
To the chagrin of a fellow Seesater here, I became the first person on
earth to see the solar panel in orbit. It was slowly flashing a little
ahead of the shuttle. I was quite excited to see it then.
