Hi everybody, I'm new to the list and want to briefly introduce myself. I'm a biologist from Mainz, Germany (50.01N 8.24E). My first visual satellite observation was Skylab in 1973 (announced in the press; my father had drawn my attention on it, I was 8 years old) and I was very happy when I learned in 1997 that satellites can be identified by everyone. That's when I started observing them on a regular basis. Last night I was happy to see Milstar 3 (99-23A). My observation started at at 02:57:10 UTC when the object was rather faint, beeing only visible with binoculars (6.5 mag). In the following 3 minutes its brightness gradually increased and reached 3.5 to 4 mag. Then the magnitude quickly dropped again below naked eye level. This was the second time I saw Milstar 3 that bright (the 1st time it also took Milstar 3 minutes to reach 4 mag) and again its color was white wheras normally it appears to me rather reddish. By the way: As Midas seems to be declassified now, does anyone know where I can get a photograph of a Midas satellite ??? Christian Ackermann Christian F.
