    Hello everyone.

Sad word has reached us today that Howard Benedict, the long-time
Associated Press space reporter in Cape Canaveral, died yesterday at
his home in Cocoa. Some of you may not realize it, but you almost
certainly read Howard's stories during the Apollo, Skylab and
Apollo-Soyuz programs and in the early shuttle years. Here's a brief
    story from Florida Today:

I competed against Howard during my early years here as UPI bureau
chief. He was a gentleman, he played fair and he absolutely knew his
stuff. RIP, Howard. And thanks for the memories.

    Regards,

    Bill
