I finally got through the year 1965, so my Chronological Summary Log of Orbited Objects is now up to date from 1957 through 1965. The large number of 1965 fragments made the new table (67 pages) just a page short of double(!) the length of the entire 1957-1964 version. Years 1957-1964 are updated, too (a few new objects have been found from those years, e.g.), as is the Introduction file. As before, I'll send both PDFs to anyone who wants them who is a Space Track subscriber, on request by return email. I can compare the task of bringing the Log current to walking on foot from San Diego across the country to my old home town of Buffalo, NY, a trek of about 2500 highway miles--as measured by odometer when I did the trip by VW van back in 1994. There being roughly 30000 catalogued objects makes adding 12 objects to the Log the equivalent of walking a mile on that trip. The table currently lists 2807 objects (because it is 2807 lines long), so I've walked just under 234 miles; I'm somewhere in Arizona right now, perhaps near Tucson. When finished, the Log will be roughly 700 pages long. The "landscape" on this trek is often quite interesting, but those long series of fragments are comparable to the stretches of featureless desert one must travel through in the southwest when going cross-country. 1965-082 is one of the longest, and it's behind me now; but sometime next year I'll be encountering the "Sahara" of 1994-029 (to which four more fragments were added just last week). One step at a time! ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subscribe/Unsubscribe info, Frequently Asked Questions, SeeSat-L archive: http://www.satobs.org/seesat/seesatindex.html
