Cosmos 2342 SL-6r observation
Thu, 7 Aug 1997 07:26:10 -0400 (EDT)

Observed decaying sat (97022B, #24801) at 0051 UT (2050 local), 21 minutes
after sunset in very bright twilight. Picked it up in binoculars at mag -2.
Overhead pass in cloudless sky; very fast, white.

Also caught Mir and Progress- apparently a very popular target last night! (I
also noticed brightness variations on Progress.) First time for catching TiPS
in the telescope, also...magnificent in 50x, passing in front of M31
(Andromeda Galaxy). Caught EGP (bizarre, strobe-like
appearance..."Disco-sat"?) by accident while observing M51 (Whirlpool Galaxy)
in 100x in my 4.5-inch scope.
