Chinese lanterns are a recently trendy toy for releasing at outdoor parties.
Yup, flaming incendiary paper toys to release upon the wind. What could
    possibly go wrong...

    Subject: My UFO mystery solved!

    Hi all:

Well, 0120 UT a BRIGHT red object was seen overhead tonight like my last
observation a week ago, but this time my 15x70 binoculars were at hand and I
managed to see it -- a BALLOON with a flame in it.
It was not manned as far as I could see but now I know what it was.
I think someone did mention a balloon.

But who launched it? ahh well...

    Clear skies
