While we are waiting for Rick Balbridge’s photos to be released from
captivity, I thought I would share my photos of the Re-entry from here in
San Antonio, Texas. Nothing really spectacular compared to the others I
have seen but I just wanted to give my perspective.

Columbia was only predicted to be 8° at culmination from here to the north.
The orbiter appeared very suddenly at about the culmination point, with
debris immediately falling away. I suspect this is when the first explosion
event took place and not the actual ion trail since the sun was already 12°
above the horizon. I suspect the trail to be flames, and what every is
    spewing from the orbiter.

I went back to the sight I took these and took some magnetic headings with a
compass. By looking at an aeronautical map, I guesstimate this explosion
event taking place somewhere near Abilene, Texas.

Well anyway, here are some photos to look at. I have left them in a very
large jpeg (1 meg) format because you will need to zoom in, to see small
pieces of the debris detail. I have made notations on each shot explaining
    any pertinent details.
