Thanks to all for the info relating to the NASA site.

Tony , I am having a problem locating the page you mention which has the
    European finder charts.
    Is it a link from http://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/eph ?

I was all set up last night under crystal clear skies about two hours before
    Leo came into view.
Telescope and camera nicely cooled.....popped out later to start
    imaging.....No Sky !!!

Just about every part of the UK was bathed in starlight , apart from Wirral
which disappeared under a thick blanket of cloud!

    Aaarghhhhh !

    John
