There's been much talk of FengYun 1C debris (which admittedly was
deliberate) but is the number of pieces in this report accurate?

"But on 19 February this year, almost a year
after the failed launch, the upper stage -
which still contained some of its fuel, exploded.
The US Space Surveillance Network has so far picked
      up 1,111 pieces of debris."
