Observing from 32.86S, 151.7E at 1010UT on 02Feb09 I observed a flash
with the unaided eye just north of zeta Taurus. Using 10x50 binoculars I
observed subsequent flashes with a period of approximately 7 seconds.
The visible part of the period was well below 1 second with no
brightening or fading. Several cycles were required to determine that
the object was moving from west to east. At 1018 the object was still
within the original binocular field. At 1035, as the object approached
eta Gemini, the object dropped below binocular visibility after
gradually fading as it moved east. Only the bright part of the period
was visible.
Can anyone assist in identifying this object?
