Susan Kaltenbach asked, > how could the collision have been a surprise? Good question indeed. Both satellites were in track by NORAD and, as Igor Lissov noted, an available collision prediction program did predict a very near approach. Presumably the Competent Authorities have even better programs. Although pursuing the answer is mostly outside of SeeSat charter, I hope that we see some discussion of the matter elsewhere. Dr. Kelso, in particular, may be able to provide some insights. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subscribe/Unsubscribe info, Frequently Asked Questions, SeeSat-L archive: http://www.satobs.org/seesat/seesatindex.html
