Dear all, As you may have already noticed, over the last few months, the site for satellite tracking has been moved on a new domain (satflare.com) and, since then, it has considerably grown, serving also a large number of users who used the service to follow the Phobos- Grunt events and final reenter: Selecting a satellite through its NORAD number, users can track in real-time the satellite position on a 2D map and on a rotatable 3D globe. Setting the observer’s location, the site can show in real-time the satellite trajectory in the sky, predict passes, flares and transits (both solar and lunar). The site is interactive so it is possible to easily zoom into the maps, request the satellite position at different times and take advantages of other minor functions. (New functions are being also developed for providing communication between observes who are interested in the same satellite) Trying to further improve the service, when a satellite is displayed, a page containing information and news about that specific satellite can now be attached under and above the maps. However, since I can not manage alone the creation of such pages for all the main satellites, I decided to ask the help of observers who may want to “take care” of their favorite satellites or group of satellites, and may be willing to write their specific pages. Currently, with exclusion of the Phobos-Grunt and of the ISS, all the satellites are available! The page content is quite free, it may span from generic data to suggestions for visual observations, to news covering special events such as launch, failures, decay and so on… If someone of you is interested, please get in touch! I can provide instructions and a template for getting started with the page. As an example, see the Phobos-Grunt and the ISS at the following links: http://www.satflare.com/track.php?q=phobos http://www.satflare.com/track.php?q=25544 Best regards, Simone _______________________________________________ Seesat-l mailing list http://mailman.satobs.org/mailman/listinfo/seesat-l
