Re: Ephemerides for Falcon Heavy hardware?

Hi all,

Below are a set of search orbits bracketing the expected range in
orbital parameters for the post SECO-2 orbit. These are valid from
19:00UT onwards, assuming an 18:30UT launch. Best visibility is for
Australia.

Looking at the JSpOC elements of a few of the Falcon 9 GTO launches,
their target orbits and SECO-2 burns had these characteristics:

So all GTO burns happened about 1600 to 1700 seconds after launch and
took 52 to 67 seconds, injecting the payload into super synchronous
orbits with a varied range of inclinations. Interestingly, the longest
SECO-2 burn was for Koreasat 5A, which had a lower inclination orbit
than the others.

The Falcon Heavy has a shorter burn and performs the burn later. The
shorter burn is consistent with the suggested lower apogee, and fits
the idea that the escape burn occurs at perigee. The later arrival at
the second burn may suggest the initial orbit is higher than for
standard GTO launches, that the burn point is not on the equator, or
that the Falcon Heavy generally follows a different (slower) ascent
trajectory.

Propagating the JSpOC elements of the 3 previous Falcon 9 launches to
the Falcon Heavy SECO-2 time yields these elements:

These are pretty consistent with a RA of the ascending node of 245.5
deg, argument of perigee near 180 deg, and mean anomaly at 0
deg. Using a range in inclination, apogee and RAAN, I generate the
search orbits below.

These search orbits have good visibility from Australia shortly after
insertion. A detection of the upper stage during this part of the
orbit would allow us to constrain the orbital inclination.
