Today, one of the persons responsible for updating the OIG (orbital Information Group) database at NASA/GSFC (Goddard Spaceflight Center), has advised me that updates now are made automatically every 2 hours, 24 h/day, 7 d/wk. Newly launched/catalogued objects are added automatically. This explains why Jeff Hunt was able to download fresh elements of the Mars'96 rocket stage on Sunday, Nov 17. The new software was being tested that weekend. There have been some bugs, so the system has not always been allowed to do unattended updates, but I am told the bugs have now been dealt with. This improved service will be especially welcome news for those who track new launches or objects near decay. Clear skies, Ted Molczan
