Thought i would post my visual observations of the satellite near miss. I observed IRAS with a Meade 60mm f5 refractor and 32mm plossl. My site is Wilderness Virginia USA. No event was suspected, in fact i never even saw the other satellite involved. There were some high cirrus clouds interfering at the time of predicted event. The satellite was mostly about 5th mag but i did note three separate flares to about mag 3.5 which occurred in the minutes after event as the satellite descended in the southern part of my sky. I took some pics of the area of event and will let people on this list know if anything interesting shows up.
