Hi George

Satellites in GEO, inclined GEO, GTO et. al. flare at or around midnight 
during the periods around the equanoxes.

I agree flares from JWST would be awesome and will most likely be 
produced that are visible from Earth.  Based on my optical observations 
it should be well within the range of amateur equipment to monitor it 
even when the geometry is less than optimal once at ES-L2.
