Tonight, july 20 1996, I could again track TiPS with
my automatic telescope.
My intention was to record the passage on video-tape
and everything was ready but though I saw it perfectly
centered in the eyepiece of a refractor fited in parallel,
(D=60mm F=300mm Eyepiece 26mm) it was too faint for the
CCD video camera. Nothing on the TV screen, no record on tape...
The camera (6mm x 4.5mm) was at the focus of a Newton
D=130mm F=720mm. The sky was very pure. One could see the
milky way. The Sun was 11 deg. below the horizon.
I could see on the TV screen Jupiter and its satellites,
Abireo and its companion, etc... But not TiPS...
My coordinates are: 50d25m27s N 4d51m42s E
I had TiPS in the center of my eyepiece at 21:01:00 UT
it was at azimuth 239d and altitude 26d
I tracked it till 21:07:00 (then it was in Scorpio)
My refractor has a corrector to give the same viewing like
in binocs. My mount is alt-az.
I saw the line like a slash (/).
I can compare its length to the separation between alpha2
(Giedi) and alpha1 of the Capricorn.
The params I used:
TiPS 3.5 0.0 0.0 5.7
1 96290U 96029 ? 96191.00000000 .00000213 00000-0 26803-3 0 09
2 96290 63.4290 122.1534 0003001 264.4868 242.7051 13.63756428 08
as given by Rainer KRACHT.
As given in my WEB page, at 21:02:00 TiPS was at an
altitude of 82d for LISBOA Portugal.

My pleasure, avec plaisir, Alphonse
