Jay was correct, there was not a cr/lf at end of each line. Running
ADDCR fixed that one file that was hanging. Mike McCants picked up on
that, also.
But for problem number one, <new data not found>, it only happens to
SOME of the elements in the file; others are updated just fine. Really
weird.
Jay also solved problem number two, where my element set number was out
of sequence. After experimenting and re-reading the documentation that
came with PASSUPDT, I suspect that there may be a flaw in the
documentation. By setting the first "ASK SWITCH" to "N", the program
assumes that you DO want to go ahead and replace the data if the element
set number is out of whack. The documentation said it would NOT perform
the update. If the documentation was correct, I would envision a
problem developing in your elsets as the element set numbers began
wrapping; one by one, elements would stop being updated when you ran
PASSUPDT. Looks like that is not the case, however, so setting the
switch to "N" like he recommended works like a charm!
