Perhaps the object was the recently discarded antenna from the July 28 EVA. I believe it is several meters in diameter from photos shown after deployment. I believe object 25877/86017NJ had been catalogued shortly after the EVA on July 23 and it didn't match your observation as far as distance from Mir.
