    First this was a daytime flare.  You have to be somewhat
    experienced to see it.  Looking so soon prior to the event
    you might have been fatigued.  It is also hard to focus
    on blue sky.
    
    The flares are very exact timewise.  You do not need to look several
    minutes early.  I have only seen one daytime flare.  I would
    suggest trying nighttime flares first to get a feel for the
    duration and characteristice of Iridium flares then graduate
    to daytime flares.
