Somewhere I have a book written in the 80's that talked about GPS and an
"orange box costing $40,000" (also mentioned the company and location, which
I forget) "that can tell you where you are anywhere in the world", being
used back in the 70's.

Somewhere around here I have a box of GPS antennas pulled out of service 
after a long run in the field.  I bought them around '91 and they were quite 
old then, I would guess late 70's to early 80's.

Just curious, I knew of GPS in the 80's and was told it had been around a
while by tgen, I never checked into it.
