Re: Started A "Macintosh Software" Site

This is a brief description of software I’ve read, used, adapted or created related to Apple platform SGP4 implementations.

Several years ago I converted the C++ code in "Revisiting Spacetrack Report #3" to Objective-C for use on macOS and iOS. I deployed that as the core of a simple ISS tracker for the original iPhone.

There is another Objective-C SGP4 library by Daniel Warner, who took a different approach, on GitHub at https://github.com/dnwrnr/sgp4

The Orekit library, written in Java, at https://www.orekit.org also contains a SGP4 propagator that I migrated to Swift. This is a work in progress but, if I ever update my simple iOS ISS tracker it will be based on that code. There’ll be more to say about this work when it gets a little more mature and is published. There’s a simple test visualization at: https://www.dropbox.com/s/g40ed88y7k7xzwe/Mac.png?dl=0

All three of these works are based on the code in "Revisiting Spacetrack Report #3" and all produce test output which is identical to the published original.

There are also some SGP4 implementations that pre-date "Revisiting Spacetrack Report #3"

I’ve worked with Tim DeBenedictis to get SGP4 into his excellent SkySafari software for macOS, iOS, and Android and regularly use the iPhone version to control my Celestron telescope to find GEO sats for imaging.

I’ll look at your contributions and (if acceptable to the list), communicate suggestions and/or additions etc directly to you, off-list. If the list prefers to be part of the conversation, that’s fine too. Speaking personally, and with absolutely no disrespect to the TLE software pioneers, I’ve been occasionally frustrated with the 'DOS-only' collection, so would love to contribute to a new generation!

I also run some C++ written by a guy named Tim DeBenedictus that propagates TLEs, again as a Unix application, and will try to share some of that.
