This year there will be a new tethered satellite launched called ATEX -
Advanced Tether Experiment. Info on it is available at
http://hyperspace.nrl.navy.mil/ATEX/ATEx.html . This satellite will have a
6km long tether compared to the TIPS satellite tether of 4km. It is planned
to be put in a 85 deg inclination orbit with a eventual orbital altitude of
425nm (972km). It is planned to be launched in sept of this year.
