On 30 May 1998 we observed from two locations, separated by 463 km, what we believe to be a double flare of Mir. It occurred shortly before Mir reached culmination in the northern sky. We estimate the brightness of Mir as follows: before flare: between +0.5 and 0 mag 1st flare: between -2.0 and -2.5 mag 2nd flare: between -1.0 and -1.5 mag The duration of the flares was approximately 5 seconds.
