I routinely run Skymap with alldat.tle and the only time it fails the way
you describe is when there is a corrupted TLE in the file.   This is a rare
event.  I can usually find the bad elset by noting which satellite is being
reported on the top of the screen at the time of failure.  It is usually the
next elset that is corrupted.  If you are running a fast computer, you
probably won't be able to see the necessary data.  There are advantages to
having a 33 MHz 486 crunching data in the corner.  :-)
