Press c (after moving the cursor at least one pixel)
When prompted for file name, you don't have to enter the .bmp extension.
I built a batch job calling IrfanView to convert all .bmp in my working
directory to .gif in a different place, and rescale and smooth (in my case
    a scale factor of 200%)

    In file
Mods from SkyMap 6.5 to 6.6
þ Added a Windows Bitmap (.BMP) screen output option. To trigger
it, hit the letter "C" (upper or lower case) while a map is
plotted. You'll be prompted for an output filename (default
of skymap.bmp) and then the screen will be copied, which takes
several seconds. A message appears while the screen is being
copied to indicate progress. Note: there is no warning of
         file overwrite.
