Cosatrak 1 (Computerised satellite Tracking System).
Camera mount now carries two systems that can be operated
together as two totally different sytems and computers used.
Meade DSI Pro II Monochrome CCD camera without filters.
using integration times of 5 sec min to 25 seconds maximum
depending on brightness of sky in particular area.No image
processing done, but some done automatically in the auto reduction
software.
Used with 80MM focal length f/2.8 Nikkon telephoto lens.
Image scale is 20.393 arc sec/pixel and field of view 264 x 192
arc minutes.( 4.39 x 3.21 degrees). Shows 13th magnitude stars
with about 5-7 second exposure. Maximum exposure is ~35 sec because
of city lit sky, decreasing to 15 seconds at elevations of 20
degrees or less.
Exposure time is recorded in the FITS header and is derived from
the PC clock which is accurate to within about 1 second.

NOTES:
======
(1) In a moment of madness I decided to measure the approximately 90
images captured during the search for VORTEX 6. Even using APEX this
proved a very time consuming task as some images contained as many as
eight geosats.
(2) The image scale, whilst ideal for searching for bright satellites,is
not suitable for geosats, despite the fact that APEX reported residuals
well under the 20 arc/sec per pixel image scale. This can be seen in
some of the measurements- especially in declination.
(3) APEX reported the seeing as being 35 arc seconds - corresponding to
about 2 pixels. I do not believe it was anywhere near that bad.
(4) Identification of satellites in the two ASTRA clusters a little
uncertain as too closely spaced.
(5) PAN USA 207 and PAKSAT 1 close together-may have identities
swopped but dont think so.
(6) APEX had difficulty sometimes in deciding satellite identities matching
the positions so I manually checked the greater majority of measurements
and identities. I will certainly think twice before doing this excercise
again. However there may still be a few errors but since they are known
geosats I dont think they are worth further effort.
(7) Two faint unidentified leo/meo sats were seen but since I dont know
which way they were going, and were also too faint, I do not consider
them worth further effort.They may possibly have even been meteors.
(8) Several objects in the images looked like satellites and are reported
as unidentified. However I dont think they warrent any further effort
as they could well be defects in the CCD image- one of the disadvantages
of such a large field of view.
