OFFICE MEMO Solar transit of STS-75 Date: 96/02/29

I know this is short notice, but if any of you satellite observers know
someone in Gainesville, Florida, STS-75 will be making a nice transit of the
sun tomorrow (Friday) morning at 9:49:06am EST. Exact positioning of the
observer is critical since the transit track is extremely narrow. The
coordinates I used for Gainesville were 29.66N, 82.33W. The transit will be
visible from a narrow strip running primarily east-west across the northern
portion of the Florida peninsula. For Gainesville, the Shuttle will appear to
cross the sun's disk from the 2 o'clock position to the 8 o'clock position,
using a clockface analogy. (6 o'clock being the part of the sun's limb
closest to the horizon).
