Hi SeeSaters,
Thanks everyone who has gone to the trouble to try to identify the
flashing satellite I observed whilst searching for Gorizont 23 in
binoculars (RE SeeSat post "Gorizont 23 / 21533", 26-Feb-98). I can
confirm that the time was 21:30 to 21:35 UT, 25-Feb-98. My observing log
& star charts are at home, & my e-mail is at work, so I can't look up
the approx. RA & Dec of the object right now, but I think zeta-Mon is
quite close to the Hydra / Monoceros border. I've been planning to run
some of the possible satellite ID's that have been posted on SeeSat
through Satspy to try to confirm the objects identity but I was too busy
with work over the last few days. I'm going to do this tonight (cloudy
sky!) & I'll post my findings tommorrow. Thanks also to Mike McKant for
coming up with a possible ID & pointing me to his Highfly program, which
looks very useful for observing / identify satellites in high earth
orbits.
Best Wishes & clear skies,
Jason P Hatton
