Last night, March 28, 1998, at about 9:50PM CST, I was able to
find the new Geosync flasher after a short search. It was very
close to the predicted position.
At 4:04:02.5 UT Mar. 29, 1998, the satellite passed the same
place that it had been at 4:08:03.8 UT Mar 28. This gives
a mean motion that is quite close to geosynchronous and the
following elset:
Unknown
1 98001U 98 88.03474135 .00000000 00000-0 00000+0 0 00
2 98001 3.4900 53.9733 0000100 48.0000 312.0000 1.00275900 09
Clouds began to interfere about 4:00UT and the object was only
intermittently visible until observations were ended about
4:20UT. Many flashes between 3:50 and 4:10 were easily visible
in the 12x80 finder scope and Sue Worden was able to see some
flashes in her binoculars.
