Further tip: if you extend your arm full length and bend your hand back
as far as it'll go (that's normally at right-angles to your arm), your
hand has an angle of about 20 degrees.

You can calibrate these measurements againt the height of Polaris, whose
elevation will equal your latitude. (Close enough for this calibration
anyway!)
