The May 2001 issue of Sky & Telescope contains a very interesting article, "Automated Meteor Observing", by Sirko Molau, which I think might be relevant to video satellite observations. The author (in Aachen.de, should any SeeSaters be in the vicinity) has automated the detection process, so that painful frame-by-frame searches don't need to be done by humans.
