    No wonder someone (sorry I forget who!) had trouble identifying the
    star field!!  2/3 of these "stars" are from the camera.  The true stars
    all have the same smile-like shape caused by tracking error.  The false
    stars are mostly a single bright pixel.
    
    I've had this same problem with digital cameras with long exposures.  Usually
    one can just subtract a black picture taken while the camera was at the same
    temperature for the exact same number of seconds.
