    If this was the explanation, they wouldn't be alone in this mistake.
    
    When I read http://satobs.org/seesat/Feb-2004/0015.html and
    the replies (one of which mentioned publicity stunt),
    I instead thought that "anyone keen to study the night sky could come to the observatory on Blackmoorfoot" implied 
    that they meant that the "satellite" was visible every
    clear evening, and that it was Venus.
    
    And Venus has triggered UFO-satellite-Iridium reports before.
