> Is there any software out there that can take a FITS (or any > other image) and knowing the general sky location, identify the stars in the > image? Yes! My website does this and you don't have to know the general sky location: http://home.comcast.net/~george.roberts4/starfinder.htm Currently it only goes down to mag 9 which isn't enough for most through-the-scope shots but is enough for a field of view of 10 degrees or more. The website appears to only go to mag 8, but you can just change the 8 to a 9 in the URL. I plan to go to mag 13 but have been lazy about downloading and parsing more stars. If more people start using the website I'll get motivated again. - George Roberts ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subscribe/Unsubscribe info, Frequently Asked Questions, SeeSat-L archive: http://www.satobs.org/seesat/seesatindex.html
