This may be of interest, I sent a note to our asteroid observers earlier. Although it's not quite an artificial satellite, it's the next best thing when it comes to objects natural. Maximum angular speed is 10 arcsec/sec. Richard ----------- A rare opportunity exists tonight to observe an asteroid approaching to within about 100,000 miles of the Earth. It was discovered by the Siding Spring Survey (E12) just over 24 hours ago and Peter Birtwhistle (J95) was first to follow up by contributing astrometry from Great Shefford picking it up low in the sky yesterday evening. Four other observatories (Mt. John - 474, Grassland - 651, Catalina - 703 and McDonald - 711) have provided further astrometric follow-up. The positions listed below are good for the southern UK.
