I don't think you're off topic at all! The charge port has
communication capability as well in the Gen 1 iPad; should still be
there. Gen 1 iPads are capable of telescope control, cable or wireless.

We have a developer of SkySafari in our area. He was using it to
wirelessly operate his Takahashi mount last summer for public star
parties. I have not asked him to find me a satellites, but geosats are
plotted, should be easy picking. Tracking one in LEO I don't know
    about.

I received an iPod Touch for my birthday. I had to smile when I turned
on the satellites and out popped the Clarke Belt with the sats plotted.
You can toggle names on and off. Cheers, Dan Laszlo, NCAS, Ft Collins

I was looking at the info, on the apple Ipad 2 that's coming out.

Let's see, unless I am mistaken, there's no usb port like I have on my
    desktop =
can't use a usb to serial adaptor, to connect my scope to it.

So the nexremote software, which could run on it from what I see, has
    no way to
connect to the mount and control it, just like the satellite tracker
    software

So no thanks, I stick to my pc.

    Kevin
