Archives....Russian mini shuttle.

I recently picked up a second hand copy of Christopher Lee's book "War in
Space" , first published in the mid seventies.

In it there is a photograph of what appears to be a small "shuttle " craft
, being recovered from the water after a test flight.
The associated caption infers that there may have been a two man version in
operation for a short time.
The craft in the photo certainly looks as though it has been through a
re-entry , but is only very small, perhaps 20 feet in length.

Does anyone have any further info on this beast?
