thanks to Scot and Marco for money saving advice. I am currently experimenting with various f-stops, iso settings, various time exposures and lens types on the 20D and will report as to what the "sweet spot" for up to 15 minute exposures are. Yes it is true , the longer the exposure the more it picks up fainter stars and then it really gets confusing.
