In the video report at the site below, beginning at about 1m20s, the emergency management coordinator commented that markings on the debris identify it as related to Ariane, and a black box is shown with the name Ariane. The third photo of the slide show on the same site appears to show the same box, but in a wider field, that provides more context. It is nor stated, but I guess implied that this box is part of the debris. http://www.wtoc.com/global/story.asp?s=12534303 I recall, vaguely, that some (all?) of the Atlas V fairings are European made. If so, and if the same manufacturer happens to provide fairings for both Ariane and Atlas V, could there be markings that state Ariane, yet were flown on an Atlas V? Wild speculation. Since this is somewhat off topic for our list, may I suggest that those who wish to pursue it, do so off-list, and then post a final conclusion/summary, if/when possible?
