Smallest visible object

I'm in the planning stages of what I call amateur sputnik.
I'm looking for advice on the smallest object that would be easily
detectable
by the observers on this group.

The current plan is to have a short lived (a week or so) small radio
transmitter
on a vehicle in a very low orbit (150 miles).
The goal is to show it does not take $100M to put something in orbit.

I'd like multiple ways to detect the vehicle and I was wondering how large
a Mylar silvered balloon would have to be to
be easily detectable.

I don't want to clutter your excellent list with details of this project.
If your interested in more details please PM directly or join the arocket
list on freelists.org.
