How can one find out predictions for shuttle re-entry? A line between
"Northern Colorado" and Cape Canaveral goes right over Tulsa, so it would
appear I have a shot, if I only knew when to look. I suppose I take the
predicted touchdown time and subtract some amount of time? How much time?
Similarly... what's the scoop these days on the re-entry of the
external fuel tank? I lived in Hawaii for a few years and I always wanted
to see that spectacle, but never did. Many times I got up in the early
morning and scanned the Southern skies 70 minutes after launch hoping to
see it. In April 1991 there was a particularly spectacular display visible
from Oahu (which I unfortunately did not hear about beforehand and thus
missed). I read in the paper there that the governor was angry that NASA was
"bombarding his state with space debris" and demanded they start dropping
the tanks further away. (Thus spoiling my chances to see it from Honolulu,
I suspect, which is why I never saw one.) Any truth to that story?
