Ed Cannon was observing naked-eye flashes from a geosync and so I decided to take a look. Then I noticed a much brighter flash about 25 degrees west and a little south of the geosync that Ed was watching. It turned out to be Echostar 2 (24313, 96-055A). Echostar 2 was reported to be flashing very brightly by Kevin Fetter last March 10. Ed and I estimated that the brighest flashes were about magnitude -1 tonight. The flash period was measured at 240.3 seconds - almost exactly 4 minutes. We observed flashes from about 3:40 UT until about 4:40 UT Nov. 5, 2010 from BCRC (Lat 30.32N, Long 97.87W). At 4:40 the flashes had faded to about magnitude 4. Mike McCants Austin, TX _______________________________________________ Seesat-l mailing list http://mailman.satobs.org/mailman/listinfo/seesat-l
