Kevin, I see that date a lot as a software architect. The Unix 'epoch' (time 0) was fixed as Jan 1st, 1970 at 00:00:00 UTC. Depending on your timezone, that's often late on 12/31/1969. It sounds like their default decay timestamp value is 0 instead of null, meaning 'no decay'.
