A new version of the UCS Satellite Database, which includes launches through August 31, 2011, has been posted at http://ucsusa.org/satellites.

There are currently 965 active satellites in the database.

The new Excel format file is called “UCS_Satellite_Database_9_1-11.xls” and the tab-delimited text version is called “UCS_Satellite_Database_9-1-11.txt”.

The versions in which the “Name” column contains only the official name of the satellite in the case of government and military satellites, and the most commonly used name in the case of commercial and civil satellites are called “UCS_Satellite_Database_officialname_9-1-11.xls” and “UCS_Satellite_Database_officialname_9-1-11.txt”.

The changes to this version of the database include:

    The addition of 35 satellites
    The deletion of 26 satellites
The addition of and corrections to some satellite data.

This update has an unusually large number of deletions. We were recently able to confirm that 19 Globalstar satellites are being moved or have been moved to disposal orbits.

We have incorporated your corrections and suggestions as we were able, and continue to welcome your comments.
