    Hi all,
We have had quite a lot of feedback from people on and off this list about
the new star charts on Heavens-Above. Most of the comments from casual
Heavens-Above users has been positive, whilst most of the comments from
people on this list have been critical. We appreciate all this feedback and
can understand why some of you see it as a step backwards.
We made this change as part of a general overhaul of the site, and in
particular, we want to make the star chart software more generic so that we
can use the same basic chart generator on different pages and just add
different overlays (e.g. satellite tracks, Iridium flares).
As an immediate response to your comments, we've increased the zoom level of
the chart which appears when you click on the "whole sky" chart. It now has
a field-of-view of 20 degrees, and time ticks every 10 seconds, and we hope
this will deal with most of the criticisms. We will also be shortly adding a
R.A./declination grid to the zoomed chart, so most of the feature of the old
    detailed chart are covered.
    Please keep the comments coming.
    Chris Peat
