continuing this somewhat offtopic thread... ...and then there was the time that I drove to a darker spot about 3 miles from my house at 1am local to see something low east with 10x70s hand held from inside my legally parked vehicle, and a local traffic cop wanted to know what was going on, etc and I assured him that my vehicle was not disabled and that I was in ok health, and I showed him my driver's license and insurance and vehicle registration and he persisted in clear violation of my constitutional rights, to the point where I told him if he wanted to search my vehicle, he needed to go get a supervising officer and a warrant from a judge. then he threatened me with a lie, ie, that he saw me hide something under the seat... but then I demanded that he go get a supervising officer and a warrant and I phoned the State Police, and he decided to go away and harass someone else. ...all the crime, and I get harassed for looking at the stars. always a good idea to get officer friendly's name and badge number. alas, I did not have my audio tape with me to record his nonsense. if he was suspicious, he should have backed off after I provided the legally necessary information and monitored my car from a distance if he had nothing better to do like catch criminals. please report police misconduct (not to seesat :) ps. some of my good friends are cops, there is good police work, and the other kind... ie you should not have to explain legal conduct && if you are on private property, the police have no legal right to question you unless they get a complaint from the owner of the property or you are committing a crime in plain sight. this is not a *legal opinion* and I was not in UK.
