I've received two reports regarding a fragmenting fireball event over south Texas last night (3:14 Sept 6 UTC, 10:14 PM Sept 5 Central Daylight Time). Both wondered if it might have been a re-entry. One was in San Antonio (29.5 or 29.6 north, 98.5 or 98.6 west) and described it as being about 30 degrees above the horizon, traversing Scorpius, moving west to east, breaking up. The other was at Canyon of the Eagles, TX (30.9 north, 98.4 west) and described it as being about ten degrees above the horizon in the southeast. The Canyon of the Eagles observer gave an estimate of it being possibly two degrees wide, with a trail four times that in length. I'm of course encourging both to submit a fireball report to the American Meteor Society: http://www.amsmeteors.org/fireball/report.html (I believe that any reported to the above are forwarded to the International Meteor Organization as well.) I'm not aware of any expected re-entries yesterday or today. I've asked both for more information about how fast it was moving. It had clouded up here before 9:00 PM, so I had given up and gone inside long before.
