In case you haven't heard, Dennis Tito has launched on schedule this morning. This a historic event for several reasons: 1) The first time a tourist has gone into space. The commerization of space is necessary in order for launch prices to drop, and this is the milestone event. Russia seems committed to launch anyone who comes with enough money. This could fuel this business. Russia (specifically, its cash-strapped space program) will lower launch costs as much as possible in order to get more ticket-buyers. It will lower the cost of getting into space and orbit. This is really the major barrier keeping the masses chained to the Earth. 2) The is one of the only times that three manned vehicles have been in orbit - AT ONCE. 3) As far as I can tell, this is a new record - never before have so many people - 13 of them -been in space at one time! ------------------------------ Jonathan T.
