You can measure the ends of long trails without problem, but you have to do it
manually by clicking on the endpoint(s) and then fine-adjusting the position
picked (astrometrica has an option for this).

It will not have the sub-arcsecond accuracy of automatic centering on a
starlike object, but it is good enough for satellites. I have measured many GEO
satellites this way.
